Frequently asked questions
How many fellows do you accept?
The size of each cohort is at the discretion of the admissions committee, typically between 5 and 8. Do I have to be an Anglican to apply? No, we welcome Christians from all denominations and traditions (asking that you be baptized and affirm the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed). However, an essential part of the fellowship is participation in the life and worship of Christ Church Waco. Your acceptance is an invitation to enter into Anglican spiritual practices for nine months. Is this just a gap year program for those who don't know what career field to pursue? No! Fellows run the gamut from those who are established in a clear career direction to those who have no idea what career to enter next. We welcome you to join us, whether you know exactly where you're headed next or not. If you already have a plan in place, we believe you'll still benefit by preparing through study, prayer, and discernment. Who can apply?
Brazos Fellows is designed for emerging adults, mainly in their 20's, though we've had Fellows ranging all the way from age 20 through their late 30s, newly graduated from college or taking a break from an established career. We are glad to consider applications from adults of any age. I'm married... can both my spouse and I apply? We’d love to have a married couple join us! So much so that we are excited to be able to offer a scholarship for spouses applying for Brazos Fellows concurrently. Scholarship opportunities vary from year to year. Please contact us for details. Please apply together. We will be glad to help you find affordable, private housing in Waco. When are applications due? Applications open October 1 for the following August's cohort. Our Early Admission deadline is December 1, and our Standard Application deadline is March 1. After these dates we will continue to accept applications on a rolling basis as long as openings remain. |
Is this a full-time study program, or will I have the chance to work and make some money?
Brazos Fellows is a (hefty) part-time program, leaving you enough time to work a part-time job on the side. We strongly encourage fellows to apply for 15-20 hours a week of part-time employment in the hours not dedicated to coursework, retreats, etc. How much does the program cost? Tuition is $6,000, which includes all of the program components (course of study, retreats, and one-on-one meetings with a tutor, coach, and spiritual director). We will assist you in finding affordable rent (see question below). You will be responsible to pay for your own accommodations, to buy your own books (approx. $400), and to pay for your own meals. Where will I be living, and what will that cost? We will endeavor to help you find shared affordable housing near downtown Waco, often with another fellow or someone from Christ Church. Plan to spend about $550-600 a month plus utilities for a shared two-bedroom apartment or room in a community house. Is there financial aid available? Can I raise funds? While we don't have financial aid available, we invite you to raise funds to cover some of your tuition costs. We have fundraising resources we can send you upon request. Is there a cost to apply? There is a $50 non-refundable fee due at the time of application (to cover the cost of a background check). When are payments due? Once accepted, a $500 non-refundable deposit is due within two weeks of your acceptance to secure your spot. $3,500 of the remaining tuition is due on August 1, and the final $2,000 is due on January 1. |
