course of study
Philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre writes that “I can only answer the question ‘What am I to do?’ if I can answer the prior question ‘Of what story or stories do I find myself a part?’” This is precisely the point of Brazos Fellows’ theological study. Over nine months, you’ll immerse yourself in the story of Christianity and seek wisdom from the women and men who went before us.
The center of your theological training will be the Course of Study. With the guidance of a team of instructors, you’ll learn to think with the Church. We’ll consider how Christians have thought about important questions: 'How should we read scripture?' 'How ought we relate to society?' 'What does it mean to be embodied creatures?' We’ll read seminal works of Christian theology and spirituality, from the poems of George Herbert, to Julian of Norwich's mystical writings, to the fiction of Flannery O’Connor, to works by Augustine, Calvin, and Aquinas, and much more. Whether you're headed into ministry or business, the Course of Study, readings, informal discussions, and weekend seminars will help you learn to think theologically. |
