Course of Study
Philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre writes that “I can only answer the question ‘What am I to do?’ if I can answer the prior question ‘Of what story or stories do I find myself a part?’” This is precisely the point of Brazos Fellows’ theological study. Over nine months, you’ll immerse yourself in the history of the church and the teachings of her great theologians and saints--seeking wisdom from the women and men who have gone before us.
The center of your theological training will be our Course of Study. With the guidance of a team of instructors, you’ll learn to think with the Church. We’ll consider how Christians have thought about important questions: 'How should we read scripture?' 'How ought we relate to society?' 'What does it mean to be embodied creatures?' You'll read church fathers such as Tertullian, Athanasius, Gregory of Nazianzus, and Augustine, the poetry of Dante and George Herbert, the spiritual writings of Julian of Norwich and Teresa of Avila, and other classic authors ranging from Dorothy Sayers to Alexander Schmemann. Ultimately, our study will help you more deeply inhabit the story of the church. |
